Laborer

Mainline Services, an established railroad construction company, is seeking Laborers to grow our expanding team.  This is an entry level position that aids and assists in hauling equipment, re-railing cars from a derailment and performs similar industrial and construction duties on railroad track maintenance work.  

Qualifications:

  • Experience in field-based operation involving manual labor (construction, farm equipment, utility, or related industry).
  • Must be able to use or learn to use a variety of tools and equipment, such as but not limited to the following: pulleys, vises, hand and power tools, steel collars/shackles, steel hooks, welding equipment, grinders, hydraulic jacks, steel chains and cables, portable lights, wheelbarrows, pumps and generators.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and/or a Class A or B CDL with a good driving record.
  • Capable of understanding and following directions.
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions performing construction related tasks.
  • Display strong adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to read, write and speak English.
  • Requires lifting approximately 75-100 lbs. to perform job duties.
  • Constant bending, twisting, stooping, standing and / or walking.
  • Must pass qualification tests as required (includes E-Rail Safe, Background, Drug Test and other training/safety programs).
  • 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for service including weekends and holidays.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for execution of field-based work including manual labor in accomplishment of tasks related to rerailing operations and track maintenance and repair.
  • Follows direction and adheres to all safety policies/procedures.
  • Ensures that all activities are carried out in a safe, effective, professional, and efficient manner to protect employees and the assets of the Company.
  • Follows all safety rules/regulations; wears required PPE; performs work in accordance with established process/procedures.
  • Seeks out Foreman/Supervisor for direction regarding daily work assignment(s).
  • As directed loads/moves/distributes materials in preparation of work activities for rerailing, load adjust, load transfer, car repair and general railroad maintenance and repair.
  • Upon conclusion of daily work ensures that equipment/materials are reloaded for safe transportation to home-base and actively participates in site clean-up.
  • Performs manual labor including but not limited to cutting vegetation/brush, digging holes/trenches, carrying materials from vehicles/equipment to designated area.
  • Actively participates in daily safety briefing.
  • Working extended hours.
  • Must be able to travel in the region frequently, with some out-of-town jobs that require multiple nights on the road.

Additional Job Duties if Applicant has a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with company policy and D.O.T. regulations.
  • Drives tractor-trailer to/from job sites, inspects loads, and machinery being transported.
  • Verifies transportation permits (if CDL certificated) to ensure that specifications for overweight and oversize loads/equipment are accurate.
  • Responsible for loading, unloading and safe transportation of equipment and/or materials to/from job site, operation of equipment at job site (if qualified) and providing assistance in the rerailing divisions and/or the track maintenance/repair/new builds divisions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have ability to work at heights, as well as climbing stairs, and work in hot or cold environments.
  • Work outdoors in a noisy, safety sensitive environment.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
